I started singing as a young girl in the small country church my family attended throughout my childhood. Music turned into one of my short lived majors at Western Michigan University but I couldn't reconcile a degree in voice and starting a family in Michigan, so Social Work happened. Fortunately, life revealed that the music can be a part of everything else, which is where the songs come from. I write to process. I write to relate. Mix this in with an indie/folk, oh sometimes pop, don't forget country, and throw in a bit of jazz sound, and there you have it.
Crafts its original material as a response to the unpredictable adventure of life.
Ranging from barn-burning and toe-tapping, to careful and contemplative, the group aims to evoke emotion and strike a chord with listeners through its heartfelt songs.
Rooted in West Michigan and comprised of Amy Young (vocals, guitar), Dave DeVos (bass), Fritz VonValtier (drums), Leah Postema (vocals), and Paul Ouwinga (guitar), the band builds upon an acoustic foundation with a diverse range of stylings, including country, rock, blues, and jazz.
Fused by friendship and a steadfast musical trust in one another, the diverse cast of musicians shines individually and collectively. Whether onstage or in-studio, an inviting chemistry is present.
The group’s latest release, “Blue Collar Baby” is a collaborative journey through time and genre. Ramblin’ bluegrass, heart-drenched love songs, smoky jazz, and nostalgic rock ’n’ roll make regular appearances alongside Young’s delightful voice. Timeless lyrical workmanship is showcased throughout the collection of songs, tackling topics like social justice, longing, and love.
Young has performed original music since 2001, eventually expanding to include additional members and an encompassing moniker: Daves at 7. The group came to fruition in 2014 around longtime collaborators Young and DeVos. The band’s name, adopted in 2018, is an ode to the many evenings spent refining their sound and musical vision at bassist Dave DeVos’ home studio. The collective has performed across West Michigan at various venues and festivals, and continues to write, record, and maintain an active show schedule.

This fun, sassy, swingy, jazzy quartet is made up of notable West Michigan talent. Wright McCargar is front and center on keys supported by two rhythm gurus, Dave DeVos on bass, Bob Ruthven on drums. Me, Amy, I get to ride the wave of vocals as we play
from the American songbook and then some!
