I started singing as a young girl in the small country church my family attended throughout my childhood. Music turned into one of my short lived majors at Western Michigan University but I couldn't reconcile a degree in voice and starting a family in Michigan, so Social Work happened. Fortunately, life revealed that the music can be a part of everything else, which is where the songs come from. I write to process. I write to relate. Mix this in with an indie/folk, oh sometimes pop, don't forget country, and throw in a bit of jazz sound, and there you have it.
Daves at 7 can be described as Americana as they combine elements of folk, rock, country, and jazz to round out their distinctive sound.
Group members represent diverse musical backgrounds, together creating original, foot-tapping, thought-provoking tunes.
Founding members Dave DeVos and Amy Young converged their musical talents in 2001, playing with great friends and talent over the years under the name Amy Young and Friends. In 2014 Paul Ouwinga, Fritz Vonvaltier, and Leah Postema joined in to solidify what is now known as Daves at 7. The group has just released their first CD project.
You'll find Amy singing from the American Songbook at local clubs, restaurants, and private events with various jazz ensemble talent.
